Testanera is a modern Italian superhot Capsicum chinense line tied to breeder Drax Diego and sold for its combination of extreme heat, dark ornamental foliage, and unusually dark fruit. The strongest live sources describe it as part of the broader Testanera lineage, with the Choc DD form specifically linked to a cross involving BBG7 Pot x SRTSL and Peach Ghost Jami. Some sources also describe the chocolate form as a choc phenotype from the Testanera/Testarossa line, which suggests the plain Testanera name is being used across a related family of phenotypes rather than one perfectly fixed old variety.

Morphology is broadly consistent even though phenotype details drift. Live sources describe a productive plant with dark foliage, pointed to slightly wrinkled pods, and a strong ornamental look. Some seller descriptions place plants around 1.0 m tall in pots, while other grow reports describe a more compact plant that still carries dark foliage and a good yield of small ghost-like pods. Fruit descriptions range from pointed chocolate-ripening pods to smaller red-ripening pods with orange highlights, which is a strong sign that the name is covering more than one stable-looking expression.

The biggest thing that does not line up cleanly online is heat and phenotype stability. Seller pages frame Testanera as a superhot, commonly around 1,000,000 to 1,500,000 SHU or above 1.3 million SHU, but some grow reports describe batches that visually matched expectations while tasting much milder. Other sellers openly describe the line as unstable or semi-stable, which fits the conflicting pod colours and heat reports. The cleanest reading is that Testanera is a real modern breeder line, but seed-trade batches are not perfectly uniform.

In practical use, sources consistently place it in the modern collector, powder, and sauce space rather than any traditional regional cooking role. Its value is mainly in modern chilli-breeding culture: dark foliage, dramatic ripening, superhot reputation, and collector appeal.
