Thai Red

Thai Red is a Capsicum annuum chilli sold under a broad trade name rather than a formally documented traditional cultivar name. The name is widely used in seed catalogues and food markets and may refer to more than one closely related Thai chilli line.

It is commonly described as a small, hot Thai type pepper, often similar in form to bird type chillies. Pods are typically slender and ripen from green to bright red. Plants are generally compact and productive, suited to warm climates and container growing.

Heat figures are not lab tested for a specific Thai Red seed line. Many references for Thai red chillies in general place them between 50,000 and 100,000 SHU. A single value of 75000 SHU is used here as a midpoint estimate within that commonly cited range.

Because the name is used loosely in both the food trade and seed catalogues, different sellers may offer different but similar genetic lines under the same label.
