Thanos
Thanos is a modern American Capsicum chinense hybrid grown in the superhot scene as a Blue Ghost x Purple Phantom cross. In live seed listings it is consistently described as a dark, dramatic pepper with heavy purple influence, extreme heat, and a name drawn from the Marvel villain Thanos, reflecting both its appearance and its aggressive heat profile. It was already in documented grower circulation by January 2021.
The plant is described as vigorous and productive, usually growing about 70.0 to 100.0 cm tall with dense dark foliage. The pods are elongated and slightly twisted rather than round, and they develop strong dark pigmentation early, appearing green with deep purple to black mottling before ripening into a peachy orange finish that commonly retains violet or dark purple flecking. That shifting colour pattern is one of the defining traits of the line and is repeatedly treated as central to its identity in current seed circulation.
Thanos is presented as a brutally hot pepper with a floral chinense character and fruity, slightly smoky, earthy flavour underneath the heat. In current use it is mainly grown for hot sauces, powders, and other high-heat preparations where both its heat and its strong aromatic profile can carry through. Its popularity in collector circles comes from the combination of dark foliage, marbled purple colouring, peach maturity, and the dramatic elongated pod shape rather than from a purely culinary niche alone.
Major factual conflict: live sources agree on the Blue Ghost x Purple Phantom identity, superhot status, dark foliage, and purple-to-peach ripening pattern, but SHU claims vary widely from about 600,000 to 1,800,000.
