Tharion
Tharion is a modern superhot Capsicum chinense hybrid created in Spain by Samuel Citon as a cross between Thanos and Orion. The name was already in public circulation by December 2022, when it was announced as a new chilli variety and offered through Matt's Peppers. Its core identity is tied directly to that parentage, combining two already dramatic dark-coloured superhot lines into a single named hybrid.
The Thanos parent is itself a superhot hybrid from Blue Ghost x Purple Phantom, commonly described with elongated pods, dark mottling, and ripe fruit shifting toward peach-orange, with heat around the 1,000,000 SHU range. The Orion parent was created by Rocco Maltesi in Italy from Fatalii Gourmet Jigsaw x Big Red Mama x Yaki Blue Fawn and is known for large dark plants, elongated pods, and superhot heat above 1,000,000 SHU. Together, those parents place Tharion firmly in the modern ornamental-superhot breeding scene built around dark foliage, anthocyanin-rich pod colour, and high heat.
Public grow reports for Tharion F1 describe it as producing Orion-coloured pods with the shape of Thanos and a taste and heat similar to a ghost pepper. That gives the line a very specific public profile: elongated superhot pods carrying the darker Orion-style colour presentation while keeping the longer, more Thanos-like form. The line is therefore defined less by a long published history and more by breeder attribution, parent combination, and the recognisable blend of pod shape, dark plant character, and ghost-level heat already reported by growers.
Culturally, Tharion belongs to the current small-breeder chilli scene rather than to an heirloom or regional landrace tradition. It entered circulation through specialist seed networks and is associated with named hobby breeding in Europe, especially Spain through Samuel Citon and wider distribution through Matt's Peppers. Its appeal is centred on the fusion of two visually striking superhot lines into a single named cross with dark foliage, dramatic pod colour, elongated shape, and very high heat.
