About this pepper

Volcano is a named Capsicum annuum pepper most often described in older grower and database references as Volcano F1, a compact, stocky, high-yielding pepper aligned with the Hungarian hot wax or banana-type group. Plants are described at about 45 to 50 cm tall and suited to patio pots and containers, with smooth, waxy, tapering fruit around 15 cm long and 3 cm wide. The pods are usually picked in their pale yellow to greenish yellow stage from about 60 to 70 days, then ripen fully red by about 85 days. The fruit is described as crunchy, fruity, and moderately spicy, and current seed sellers still present it as a strong pickling pepper and a reliable early producer.

A major factual conflict affects Volcano's core identity in live sources. Oregon State's variety listing places Volcano in the Anaheim section with light green to red fruit and hot pungency, while older grower and seed references describe it instead as a Hungarian hot wax or banana-type hybrid, and some newer North American sellers market Volcano as an heirloom or USA variety rather than an F1 hybrid from Europe. The consistent part across these live sources is that Volcano refers to a productive Capsicum annuum with elongated light-coloured immature fruit that ripens red, but the exact market class, heat level, and origin are not standardised under the single name.
