About this pepper

Yolo Wonder is a sweet bell pepper cultivar developed in the United States as an improved derivative of the California Wonder type. It was introduced to produce large, blocky fruits with thick walls and a sweet, crisp flavour suitable for fresh consumption, roasting, stuffing, and general culinary use.

Plants typically grow to approximately 60 cm in height with dense foliage that helps protect developing fruit from sun exposure. The growth habit is compact and productive, supporting consistent yields under warm growing conditions.

Fruits are large, square-shaped, and thick-fleshed, commonly measuring about 10–12 cm in length and similar width when mature. They begin emerald green and ripen to a bright, glossy red. Flavour is mild and sweet, consistent with non-pungent bell pepper types.

Yolo Wonder is noted in horticultural descriptions for improved disease tolerance, including resistance to tobacco mosaic virus. Its reliable productivity and fruit quality led to its widespread adoption in home gardens and field production.

The cultivar has also been used as a reference commercial variety in agricultural research evaluating growth, yield, and performance comparisons among pepper cultivars, reflecting its established agricultural status.

As a sweet bell pepper, Yolo Wonder contains no capsaicin heat and is rated at 0 Scoville Heat Units.
